A Green Country
My journal from recycled paper is made is Costa Rica bought in the states. Go figure. The green fad is not only a custom that is growing in the states, its becoming more common in Central American as well. Many beaches have containers for trash, plastist and paper. In beautiful country it gives me some comfort knowing they´re working preserve it. Costs Rica has the most National Parks in the all of latin America, at least 30 percent or more is a reservation of some kind. Its lush and green everywhere without a spot of brown, daily rains make this possible.
One week has past but it feels like its only been a few days. The tranquil lifestyle of the ticos allows for less thoughts about a ¨to do¨ list of obligations. However this mentality translates to much of the cultural aspects of work in the country. Driven by tourism, hussle and bussle flows in hopes of the next American dollar. Work is hard to come by in Costa many will take a taxi job for 7 days a week for pay as litle as 4 dollars an hour.
My host family es muy simpatico! I live in a two bedroom house with 5 people its small but it works. My host mom and dad, their daughter, her husband and their 3 month old baby. This typical for Costa Rica. My mama tica likes to show love through her cooking, every morning I have gallo pinto (beans, rice and eggs), toast, fruit, and juice! Its a full meal. I usually dón´t need much food for the rest of the day. She greets me with a delicous dinner in the evening as well.
I have 6 hours of spanish three days a week and 4 hours on the other days, its a nice break to hit the beach, surf, and read. My spanish teacher is part of a soccer team, next week I´m going to join her in a tourament in Tamarindo, it´ll be interesting to see how the ticas play. There´s a good mix of spending time with the tico´s (Costa Rican´s) and some of the other students. There is always someone to go to the beach with or tours in the country. Everyone has been friendly and made for some good conversation. Yesterday I went zip lining in the jungle with a german friend and an american. It rained for three hours right after we got off the lines...luckly it was dry for most it our trip. Next week I´ll be playing futbol and traveling a little south of Tamarindo to check out the surf at playa grande. Can´t wait.
